The Lord Jesus Prays for His Disciples (2) : Father, sanctify them. <Jn 17:13-19>

 

Introduction

1. The seed of sanctification was planted upon the regeneration of a person.

2. Sanctification is essentially not external change, but the constant internal renewal and transformation of a person in Christ.

3. Misunderstanding of Sanctification.

Activism

Passivism

4. Regeneration is monergistic, while Sanctification is synergistic.

5. In Sanctification, our sins are progressively being restrained and repressed, yet not destroyed.

6. During Sanctification, the conflict between our new and old self will cause great tension within us.

1) The Joy of the Lord Jesus

2) The Lord Jesus hopes this joy can fill the hearts of the disciples.

 

2. <Jn 17:14>

1) The World - The fallen sphere of influence on this Earth.

2) Not to take them out of the World.

3) Protect them from the evil one.

* Ask: How does the evil one use the world to assault the church today?

 

4. <Jn 17:17> Sanctification must first come though knowing the Truth of God.

 

5. <Jn 17:18> Only through Sanctification can one see that he is sent by God.

 

6. <Jn 17:19> The Sanctification of the Lord Jesus is about how HE will be set apart as the most holy sacrifice to atone for our sins
