Living Out the Fulfilment of Singleness <1 Co 7:1-2, 6-9, 25-29, 32-35, 38-40>

1. The mindset which singles should not have.

1Inferiority complex.

·        Marriage and singleness are both good.

·        Self-worth is not built upon marital status, but upon how much Christ values us.

·        Do not feel limited because of singleness.

2Self-pity

·        Do not feel that if God does not (or has not) given you a spouse, then it means He loves you less.

·        Do not think that only if you can marry, then life is complete.

·        What humans need ultimately is Christ.

3It may be easier for singles to feel lonely, but singles need not be lonely.

·        Human intimacy is not only found through marriage.

·        May not have in-depth relationship with just one person, but can enjoy a breadth of meaningful relationships with many people.

2. What’s good about singleness?

Read<1 Co 7:1-2, 6-9, 25-29, 32-35, 38-40>

·        Spared from the troubles of marriage.

·        Undivided devotion to the Lord.

·        In fact, the greatest work of God was accomplished through singles (e.g.: Paul, Jesus).

·        Grasp the unique opportunities that singles have.

·        But when will singles feel especially miserable?

o   When they are too self-absorbed and self-centered.

·        Singleness can even reveal God’s glory more than being married.

·        No one can predict what is better for each individual, whether it is marriage or singleness à Let God think for you.

·        Singleness is not a problem, nor is marriage an entitlement, but both have God’s perfect will.

3. Single but still looking for spouse?

·        Glorious marriage is between one man and one woman in the Lord (not outside the Lord).

·        Do not settle for anyone just because it is hard to find.

·        If really unbearable to wait, do not get frightened by the thought of being single for whole life, but first think about how to enjoy singleness “today” (one day).

·        Do not let the wait for marriage kill our gratitude for God’s grace of salvation.

·        Ask from God with a heart which is reconciled to Him.

·        Strive to be a brother or sister who is blessed and spiritual.

·        Fix your eyes on the eternal kingdom.
