Why shrink back at the pursuit of godliness<1Ti4:1-3,7-8; 6:3-4,6,10; 2Ti3:3,5; 1:3-6>

 

1. What is godliness?

1) Is there any difference between godliness and holiness?

2) If godliness is helpful, we should not hesitate to be obsessed with godliness.

 

2. The modern church, in particular, has suffered from avoiding the mention of godliness.

Read <1Ti 4:1-3,7-8>

1) Hypocritical godliness happens when confrontation and rebuke are avoided.

*Read <1Ti 6:3-4,6,10

2) Pursuing godliness without contentment brings misunderstandings and obstructions to (pastoral) ministries.

3) We can have a form of godliness but denying its power of repentance, renewal and perseverance.

3. Godliness has value for all things. Therefore, train yourself for godliness.

1) Train to supplement our faith with godliness

(1) We can then get past the stress and worries of the present life

(2) For the day of the Lord is coming soon

(3) Train yourself with sound doctrine and sincere faith

 

2) Persistence in training is needed to produce fruits of godliness

(1) Godliness in 2Pe1:6-7 comes in between perseverance and brotherly kindness

(2) It is good to live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness 1Ti2:1.

(3) Godliness involves witnessing in season and out of season2Ti4:2

 

3) To fan into flame the gift of God in you

* But where is the mystery of godliness that produces spiritual transformation?
