What is Good and What is Bad? < Ecc 6:12, 7:1-14>

Read: <Ecc 6:12, 7:1-6>

1. Who knows what is good for a person in life? <Ecc 6:12>

1) Man cannot perfectly discern what is good and bad.

2) Reversed view of good and bad <Ecc 7:1-6>.

* Without Christ, what the world deems as good may be woe.

* Conversely, with Christ, what the world considers as woe can also become blessing.

3) Gain important insights from death, sorrow and adversities <Ecc 7:1-6>.

4) Be it good or bad, we still must look to God and rely on Him <Ecc 7:14>.

<Ecc 7:14> When times are good, be happy; but when times are bad, consider this: God has made the one as well as the other. Therefore, no one can discover anything about their future.

2. Must receive wisdom.

1) Things that make people lose wisdom <Ecc 7:7-10>:

(1) Greed

<Ecc 7:7> Extortion turns a wise person into a fool, and a bribe corrupts the heart.

(2) Impatience and pride

<Ecc 7:8> The end of a matter is better than its beginning, and patience is better than pride.

(3) Anger

<Ecc 7:9> Do not be quickly provoked in your spirit, for anger resides in the lap of fools.

(4) Keep thinking that the past is better

<Ecc 7:10> Do not say, “Why were the old days better than these?” For it is not wise to ask such questions.

2) “Wisdom preserves the life of him who has it”.
