The inconceivable darkness.

<1Jn1:5, 2:11; 1:6-2:2; 3:8-9; 2:22; 4:2-3>

Read: <1Jn 1:5, 2:11>

1. When people continue in sin..

1) The degree and irrationality of sin.

2) Gnosticism: seek direct inner spiritual realization (gnosis).

3) There is sin leading to death.

4) Mental illness.

Read: <1Jn 1:6-2:2; 1Jn 3:8-9>

2. The tension of turning and coming near to God.

1) If we follow the Lord, we will walk in the light. Yet we will not be perfect and will sin again. The guilt of our depravity can crush us easily.

2) Though we struggle with sin, there is forgiveness, for we have an Advocate Jesus Christ. However, as we are distressed by and repent of our remaining sins, we will progress in holiness and be assured of salvation.

3. What is conceivable then?

1) Know the Father and the Son.

2) Acknowledging that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh.

3) Do not seek “gnosis”, but instead, we should seek for learning and understanding.

4) Learn how to have fellowship, even while building trust.
