Read: <Ecc 4:1-6>

1. Do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits.

1) God is light and in Him is no darkness at all

Read: <1Jn 1:5>

2) The Incarnation is one of the essential doctrines of Christianity: available to all, yet exclusive

3) The Holy Spirit Who lives in us particularly illuminates us to hold firmly to the orthodox teachings of the apostles: justification by faith, doing good works that demonstrate this faith, …

Read: <1Jn 4:7-12>

2. Everyone who loves has been born of God and knows God.

1) 1) We have no choice but to love others, especially fellow believers

2) We must love even the unlovely and do so even if it means denying ourselves, because love is an attribute inherent to God’s own divine nature

3) Every failure to love can be traced back to a failure to understand the cross

4) As we love one another, we demonstrate this love of God in us is operative

Read: <1Jn 4:13-16>

3. Do not be mistaken, as it is not our own love and obedience, but it is the work of the Spirit.

1) We won’t be assured that Jesus dwells in us and us in Him if we do not progress in sanctification.

2) The internal witness of the Holy Spirit is confirmed by the outward manifestations of confession, love and holiness.

Read: <1Jn 3:23-24>

3) Abiding in the Lord’s love (God’s love, love God, love men), penetrating new people groups, diverse yet unique domains.
