The Tongue Has the Power of Life and Death.

<Prov 18:21; Prov 12:18; Mt 12:34; Prov 16:23-24; Jas 3:8-10; Mt 12:36-37; Jn 1:14; Ep 4:29, 31; 5:4, 6>

1. Words indeed have power.

* God created the world with His word.

* Satan’s power is in his lies (deceptive word).

* <Prov 18:21> The tongue has the power of life and death, and those who love it will eat its fruit.

* <Prov 12:18> The words of the reckless pierce like swords, but the tongue of the wise brings healing.

* Importance of “word ministry”.

* Must listen to God’s word carefully and also be careful about words that come out from our mouths.

2. The words we speak are related to our hearts.

* <Mt 12:34b> For the mouth speaks what the heart is full of.

* <Prov 16:23-24> The hearts of the wise make their mouths prudent, and their lips promote instruction. Gracious words are a honeycomb, sweet to the soul and healing to the bones.

* But man cannot control his heart, nor his tongue. Thus, we must rely on the Lord and use God’s word to fill our hearts.

* Read: <Jas 3:8-10>

3. Must always practice speaking blessed words.

* Without practice, will easily revert to the way of old self, having a tongue full of deadly poison.

* God gives man free will, so we actually can choose our words, and be responsible for what we say.

* Read: <Mt 12:36-37>

* Best example of one who speaks blessed words is our Lord Jesus.

Read: <Jn 1:14>

* Blessed words: Must have truth and grace.

* Words we should avoid: Read <Ep 4:29, 31; 5:4, 6>

* A blessed tongue may not mean we must speak, sometimes we also need to hold our tongue and be silent.

* Must know how to “be quick to listen, slow to speak” <Jas 1:19>, “Do not be quick with your mouth, do not be hasty in your heart to utter anything before God” <Ecc 5:2>.

* If our words is a matter of life and death, then how often do we pray about our words?
