The Defence of Stephen (5)

God Sent Moses as Ruler and Deliverer

Introduction:

*      How the Jewish leaders opposed Stephen will be how the world oppose those preaching the true gospel.

*      The gospel itself is in conflict with human complacency and greatness.

*      Because of human sin, mankind cannot liberate themselves.

*      God’s Son, Christ, must become mankind’s Ruler and Saviour.

*      Jewish leaders accused Stephen of speaking against the holy place and the law, but it was all for their own benefits.

Read <Ac 7:34-38>

1.    <v34>: People of the world need to be set free from a state of slavery

*      When a person thinks he does not need God to save him, that is the most severe form of pride.

*      But God had seen the oppression of His people and heard their groaning.

2.    <35(i)>: The people rejected Moses, just as people of the world reject Christ

3.    <35(ii)>: God sent Moses as ruler and deliverer

*      Some people only want the salvation of Christ, but do not want Him as their Ruler.

*      Just as the Israelites kept rebelling against Moses in the wilderness,  disobeying God, thus they all fell in the wilderness.

4.    <v36>: Why did God perform miracles and signs through Moses for 40 years?

*      Today, how should we view miracles and signs?

5.    <v37>: Moses foreshadows Christ

*      But Moses was also a weak mortal, who committed wrong toward the end of his serving.

*      Must man be perfect before he can serve God?

6.    <v38>: How did God appear to Moses?

1)    God was with Moses in the wilderness and at Mount Sinai.

2)    God spoke to Moses.

3)    God was with our forefathers.

4)    Moses received living words.
