Salvation is by grace, but do I know how extensive this grace is<Jon1:1-2; 2:8-3:2; 4:1-5, 9-11>

 

1. The grace that saves and redeems.

Read <Jon 1:1-2>

1) God's judgment is an act of grace in response to wickedness. <1:1-2>

 

Read <Jon 2:8-9>

2) The grace that regenerates and renews.

(1) Recognized the state of idolatry is that which turns away from their own mercy.<2:8>

(2) Convicted and wanting to persist in believing that only God gives grace without falsehood. <2:9i>

(3) Personally testified that salvation is the prerogative of God alone. <2:9ii>

3) Unworthy of the office and honour of being a prophet of God, God graciously gave him a second chance. <3:1-2>

 

2. Grace beyond the nation (Israel), even to the Gentiles (sinners, mutual hatred).

Read <Jon 4:1-5, 9-11>

1) God allows us to confide, but not in excess, as if to accuse God. <4:1-2>

 

2) God sometimes lead when we could not have tested and approved. <4:2-3>

 

3) The way the Lord brings Jonah home, so that we may reflect. <4:4>

 

4) When we are in bitterness or disbelief, God wants us to know that there is still room for repentance and redemption. <4:5>

 

5) God uses creative ways to give grace to redeem us. <4:6-9>

 

6) Salvation is by grace, therefore, salvation is never inhuman. <4:10-11>

 

7) What really cures self-centeredness is to consider the longsuffering of our Lord means salvation.
