Westminster Shorter Catechism

Question: What is the chief end of man?

Answer: Man's chief end is to glorify God, and to enjoy him forever.

1.    Surely our highest goal is to glorify God, and to enjoy Him forever.

1)    "To glorify God" is not that easy to learn, but it is the knowledge we ought to have.

·       Glory: Weightiness, importance, dignity, significance, value.

2)   Does man have a higher calling than glorifying God?

<1Cor 10:31> <Ro 11:35-36>

3)    What about evangelism? Shepherding? Caring for the weak? Are they not glorifying God?

4)    In fact, we can really miss the teachings of God.

2.    To enjoy God forever.

1)    The biblical basis for church doing missions.

Read: <Ps 73:24-26>

1)    We cannot glorify God without being conscious on our failings.

2)    The dignity needed by man is not intrinsic, but the dignity of man is reflected from God.

3)    "Glory be to God alone" to be reinforced in teachings, and "enjoying God" has to be experienced time and again.

3.    Keep growing in glorifying God.

Read <Jn 17:22,24>

1)    Beware of glorifying God in your own terms.

2)    Two important areas of God be glorified.

Salvation belongs to God and from Him alone.

God and God alone is to be glorified in our worship.
