Be hastened by the Spirit, not remaining in lethargy. <Ro8:12-13; Mt7:15-18; Ja1:25; 1Sa2:12,17; 3:1,7-8,12-14,17-18; Lk22:42-44>

1. Christians are no longer bound to the flesh; we are debtors to the Spirit.

Read: <Ro 8:12-13>

1) We become alive and active to put to death the deeds of the body.

(1) There is no one who are not debtors.

(2) Sin originates in the heart, which includes our will.

(3) Sin finds expression through the body

(4) Sin must be terminated from both the heart and the bodily expressions of our works.

2) We need good fruits to confirm what we believe, for it is possible to have self-authenticating and self-deceiving lives.

Read: <Mat 7:15-18>

3) When we put faith into works, we will be blessed in what we do.

Read: <Jas 1:25>

2. The regrettable gap between knowing and doing could bring spiritual lethargy if not dealt with.

Read: <1 Sam 2:12,17; 3:1,7-8,12-14,17-18>

1) Eli the priest stands as a warning to us: we must heed the Word of God ourselves and not be content merely to teach or know.

(1) Eli told Samuel how to respond to God, but he himself had not been listening to God.

(2) Eli failed to discipline his sons, because he did not confront them with more than words.

(3) Eli resigned himself to his fate but did not repent and ask God for mercy.

2) Realise that our will is one of the most difficult areas of renewal

* Always thinking, always failing, always not improving

3. Learn from Jesus to pray for transformation exactly in the face of the darkest hour.

Read: <Lk 22:42-44>
