教会一直以来都在面对世俗的挑战。确实,将天上的福音传讲,把人从世界拯救出来,叫信徒走分别为圣的路都是世俗思想和文化在对立的事。但是,当我们走向这末后的末时,人类面对全球化的现象,人听得多,知道得多,开始对自己的周围世界有非常敏感的知觉,教会就会面对人的心灵与日俱增的需要。当然,不管世界怎么改变,古旧的福音永远都是人类所需要的福音。我们不能因人的需要而改造福音的本质来迎合人的需要。但是,当我们看见人的性情一直在受世界塑造、歪曲、摧残、引诱等的时候,教会要思考的一个问题就是:「基督的福音是怎么确实能填满人灵魂的需要,且使人看见跟从神的价值?」当人的心灵带有无助、迷茫、忿怒与失望时,我们是否能深有同感?我们所传讲的福音真道是否能成为他们急需的帮助?要不然,我们就如同在打空气。我们所传的福音就如同高言大智,毫无圣灵和大能的明证《林前2:4》。我们如同在解答人没有疑问之处,我们在抓人不痒的部位,或是在供给人没有需求的货物。当然,人的需要有很多种,但人的需要一定不外出福音能给予的。可能,一个结婚的人喜爱听婚姻的信息,有儿女的人喜爱听儿女的信息,老年人喜欢听保守健康的信息,但若单以这样的信息来满足人的心灵还是很表面的。人最终还是在他永存的灵魂里要找到答案。所以,若教会降低福音的水准,改造福音的本质来讲一个叫人听了感到非常相关与舒服的福音,信徒就会慢慢变得更狭窄,只听顺自己的耳朵和情况的信息。他们很快会失去为周围人祷告的心,渐渐成为世界的俘虏,且失去光和盐的作用。但在另外一方面,若教会因为已经满足于现在能跟从的群众,而不加以思考人心灵的欠缺,以致不更深更彻底的将人带到属灵的实际,教会便会间接导致人走向世界来得心灵与肉身的填满。在这点上,我们一定要有很精准的眼光,且要凡事察验,我们的信仰经历和教导才不会掉入一种“固定的死板形态”。有时,哪怕是需要将很属灵的知识带给人,我们也要不断的将人引入那方面来思想和体感。这样,人才能渐渐倾向属灵的事,经历里头的奥秘。保罗说他向什么样的人就作什么样的人,无论如何,总要救些人。确实,教会无论如何总要救些人。就算是还未能将他们带到重生悔改的地步,也起码要将他们带到“有神”的观念,或是能经历到“神的临在”,之后在从那里继续敞开他们属灵的眼光。确实,当这世界已经越来越堕落,且继续用各种的经历和感悟来刺激(或满足)人的心,或是用各种的情报和资讯来左右人的心思、意念与选择,我们的神并不是隐藏的。神在人的心怀意念与生活处事里都实际的在做工。教会在这时代更是要靠圣灵观察世界的走向与人心灵的需要,好向这时代展现出那又真又活的主基督
The Church has always been facing secular challenges. Truly, by sharing the gospel from heaven, by saving people from this world, by asking believers to take the path that is set apart as holy, these are in opposition to secular thoughts and culture. However, as we walk towards the last days of end times, the human race faces the phenomenon of globalization, the more people hear, the more knowledge they have, they start to become more sensitive to the world around them. The Church will have to manage the hearts and spirits of people and their daily increasing needs. Of course, regardless of how the world changes, the age-old gospel will always be the gospel that the human race needs. We cannot change the essence of the gospel to meet the needs of Man. But when we see people’s temperaments being continually shaped, distorted, destroyed, and tempted by the world, one question which the Church has to examine is, how can the gospel of Christ truly satisfy the needs of the human spirit, and let people see the value of following God? When a person’s spirit is helpless, lost, angry or disappointed, do we also share the same feeling? Does the gospel truth that we share become their much-needed help? If not, what we do is in vain. The gospel we share will be just eloquence and human wisdom, and does not have the demonstration of spirit’s power <1 Co 2:4>. We are like resolving doubts that people do not have, or scratching areas where people do not itch or giving people goods that they do not need. Of course, Man have many needs but these needs definitely do not exceed what the gospel gives. It is possible that those who are married like to listen to messages related to marriage, those with children like to listen to messages on children, and seniors like to listen to messages on how to maintain their health. But it is still at a superficial level if such messages are shared to merely satisfy people’s spirits. Man eventually has to find answer in his eternal spirit. Therefore, if the Church dilutes the standard of the gospel, changes the essence of the gospel by sharing messages that are very relevant and comfortable to the ears, believers will slowly become more narrow-minded and only listen to messages suited to their ears and situations. They will quickly lose the heart to pray for the people around them and gradually become captives of this world and lose their role of being the light and salt of this world. Or, on the other hand, if a church is satisfied with the number of their present followers, and does not examine the inadequacies and lack in people’s spirits, it will result in the church not being able to bring people into a deeper and more complete spiritual level. On this note, we must have a very clear perspective, be able to examine all things, then our faith experience and teaching will not fall into a “fixed and inflexible form”. Sometimes, even if we need to give others very spiritual knowledge, we also have to continually lead them to think and experience in that area. In that way, people can then gradually incline towards spiritual matters and experience the mystery within. Paul said that he had to become all things to all people, so that by all possible means, he might save some. Indeed, the Church has to save some people by all possible means. Even if the Church has not brought people to a state of being born again and repentance, it has to at least bring them to a perspective on the existence of God, or be able to experience God’s near presence. From there, continue to expand their spiritual perspective. Indeed, as this world becomes more and more fallen, and continues to use all sorts of experiences and emotions to stimulate (or satisfy) people’s hearts, or use all sorts of news and messages to influence people’s thoughts, beliefs and choices, our God is not hidden. God is practically working in our hearts and minds and in our daily activities. In this era, the Church has to all the more rely on the Holy Spirit to examine where the world is heading and the needs of people’s hearts and spirits, to demonstrate to this era the true and living Christ, the Lord.
